Southeast Alaska/Yukon Weather
What to expect in early September
1. Southeast Alaska’s Weather: This region of Alaska is coastal and has a maritime climate, is unpredictable and can change dramatically quite quickly. You can expect weather ranging from sunshine to cloudy, foggy, windy and rain. The climate is tempered by the ocean with average temperatures generally ranging from the upper 40’s F (9 C) at night to the upper 50’s F (15 C) during the day. For example, over the course of a single day the weather can change dramatically from sunshine to socked in fog, wind and rain and then back to sunshine again.
2. Yukon Weather: The Yukon area on the Golden Circle route (which passes through White Horse) is further from the coast and has a dryer, interior climate with less variability. You can expect weather ranging from sunshine to cloudy, windy and rain with a very slight chance of mild snow. The climate is not tempered by the ocean and has a greater range of temperatures with averages from the upper 30’s F (4 C) at night to the upper 50’s F (15 C) during the day.
